Presentation
An original research organization to defeat diabetes
Created in 1991, managed by Pr Michel Pinget, Emeritus Professor at Strasbourg University and subject expert,
the Centre européen d’étude du Diabète (CeeD or European Diabetes Study Center) is today:
recognized as a public benefit organization
certified ISO 9001 : 2015
CeeD’s teams are implementing a global strategy
to fight against diabetes with:

Lab research
Its laboratory team is working on several projects around “Crosstalk Communications Between Islets Cells and Insulin Target Tissue” as the Hidden Face of Iceberg.

Vaincre le diabète
Its initiative “Vaincre le diabète” (meaning “defeat diabetes”), a campaign dedicated to a large audience in order to increase public awareness and information on diabetes realities, screening and prevention.
CeeD’s history

Great European "premieres" in diabetology initiated by Pr Michel Pinget
Even before it was created, CeeD was associated to the great European “premieres” in diabetology initiated by Pr Michel Pinget, its founding president.
- 1979: first insulin pump for a patient in Strasbourg
- 1989: first series of 9 insulin pump implants in Strasbourg
- 1999: first pancreatic islets transplant in Strasbourg
Our first supports
The creation of CeeD and more specifically the construction of its research laboratory building within Hautepierre Hospital site (Strasbourg University Hospital) was possible thanks to the support of:
- local authorities such as the Regional Council of Alsace, the General Council of Bas-Rhin, the General Council of Haut-Rhin, the City of Strasbourg
- regional scientific and university authorities (Strasbourg University Hospital, Strasbourg University, INSERM which is a public scientific and technological institute)
- health institutions such as ARPEGE group
- volunteers, who invested themselves in our non-profit initiative “Vaincre le diabete”.
CeeD’s milestones
1991
In response to the World Health Organization’s concerns about the rise of diabetes in the world, Professor Michel Pinget created a unique research and innovation structure: Centre européen d’étude du Diabète (CeeD).
1996
CeeD becomes a WHO’s collaborator for diabetes around the world.
2001
Recognition of the Public Utility Mission by prefectural decree on August 13th.
2002
Creation of ASDIA, a home healthcare company (insulin pumps), whose entire profits were then donated to research.
2005
Publication in "The Lancet" journal of the first epidemiological study on diabetes prevalence in Cambodia
Inauguration of the new CeeD’s building where its research laboratory is still located.
2013
Accredited by the Minister of Higher Education and Research and the Strasbourg University as one of its certified research center “Diabète et thérapeutique” (DIATHEC) - UR 7294
2014
Sale of ASDIA. All benefits were donated to CeeD’s research.
2016
Arrival of Dr Karim Bouzakri as laboratory director. Under his leadership, research projects focus on crosstalk between skeletal muscles and pancreas.
Organisation of the 1st Scientific and Medical Congress, EuroDia Meeting.
2017
The lab received the European “Marie Sklodowska-Curie” grant. It will allow the coming of a high level researcher and thus accelerate CeeD research work on the understanding of diabetes’ cellular mechanisms and more particularly on the link between physical exercise and diabetes.
Organisation of the second Scientific and Medical Congress, EuroDia Meeting.
2018
Creation of CEED Formation, training center fors healthcare professionnals, which benefits are donated to the CeeD’s research.
2019
Organisation of the third Scientific and Medical Congress, EuroDia Meeting.
